Because of the financial crisis, the European Commission supported the idea of granting low-interest credits of a total sum of 40 billion euros. Money would help companies to start using greener technologies.

After meeting with representatives of the European automotive sector, European Commissioner Guenter Verheugen said the loans can be provided by the European Investment Bank.

The assistance to the German producers has been also announced by Chancellor Angela Merkel, by reducing taxes on low-emission cars.
